Savings Journey: February 2018

Updated: Feb 22, 2019

Each month I'll track my saving and spending. This is the first of those posts and it's for the month of February, 2018. I hope it helps hold me more accountable and can give other people a baseline for their own saving journey!

February was good and bad for saving. I was on a school trip to Kenya for a week, and didn't spend much then. It's also a short month, so less days to spend money.

Sadly, my iPhone died and had to be replaced. The good news is that I I've been changing some of my philosophy on spending and brand loyalty, and I'm just sick of Apple, so I was able to get a really good smartphone that does the same things better for half the cost of an iPhone.

Overall, my savings rate was 61% for the month, about $2400. That's GREAT! And it's over my goal of saving 50% per month. That means I can put more in my investments and achieve financial independence earlier!

In later posts I'll get in to how I go about saving money, what lifestyle choices I've made and how they've effected me. One great post that really helped me think differently about savings was Spend Less. Be Happy. from Millennial Revolution and I highly recommend it.
